It’s Cowboy Stampede time

In 2014, my wife, Rhonda and I had the distinct pleasure of participating in the inaugural Cowboy Stampede, the first rodeo hosted by the OSU Rodeo Team in 30 years.

Fast forward a couple years and, hard as it is to believe, we’re just a few days away from the third edition of an event that is quickly turning into a time honored tradition each fall in Stillwater.

This year’s Cowboy Stampede will kickoff our Homecoming celebration. Festivities will begin Thursday, Oct. 20 and run through Saturday, when championship buckles will be presented to individual and all-around winners competing in nine events. Gates at the Payne County Fairgrounds (Highway 51 and Fairgrounds Road) will open at 5 pm and performances will begin at 7 pm nightly.

Here’s where you can get more information and learn where to purchase tickets.

It’s no secret that extracurricular endeavors enrich students’ educational experiences and prepare them for life’s challenges in ways lectures and classwork cannot.

In that spirit, it’s clear our Cowboy Stampede is far more than a great family and community event. It’s an opportunity to support and encourage a group of students who are accomplished both in the rodeo arena and the classroom and poised to make own unique marks on the world.
